How long does an AirPods Case battery last?

AirPods

The amount of time that your AirPods case battery will last depends on its model. Apple regularly releases new models and updates. The newer your model, the longer the battery is going to last. As an example, AirPods 3rd generation will last longer than AirPods 1st and 2nd generations.

An AirPods case can be fully charged within an hour but it’s best to leave your AirPods case to reach its full battery life, which might take a little longer. The less you need to charge your actual AirPods, the longer the case battery will last. This is because you aren’t having to charge your AirPods often. Having the volume at 50% will mean you don’t need to keep charging your AirPods.

Using your AirPods for an hour or two at a time will help to prolong the life of your case battery. The case battery should last a few days with AirPods usage like this. If you’re someone who spends most the day using your AirPods, then you’re going to need to charge them multiple times. This will use up the case’s battery and power.

To find out how much battery your AirPods case has, if the status light inside the case is green, you have enough battery to charge your AirPods. If the light is orange, this indicates your case needs charging.

AirPods 1st and 2nd generation case usage time

1st and 2nd generation AirPods cases will provide you with more than 24 hours of listening time or up to 18 hours of talk time. You can charge your AirPods in their case for up to 3 hours of listening time or up to 2 hours of talk time in 15 minutes.

These AirPods have two case options; a wired charging case or a wireless charging case. 1st and 2nd generation AirPods take 20 – 30 minutes for a full charge and a single charge will give your up to 5 hours of listening time or 3 hours of talk time.

AirPods 3rd generation case usage time

3rd generation AirPods cases will give you slightly more usage time than the 1st and 2nd generation versions. These cases will provide you with up to 30 hours of listening time or up to 20 hours of talk time. You can give your AirPods a quick recharge for up to 1 hour of listening time or around 1 hour of talk time in 5 minutes.

A single charge in its case will give your AirPods up to 6 hours of listening time or up to 4 hours of talk time. It also comes with a MagSafe charging case so making charging easy.

AirPods Pro case usage time

The AirPods Pro case has a similar usage time to the 1st and 2nd generation AirPods cases. It gives the same listening and talk time; over 18 hours of talk time or up to 24 hours of listening time on one charge.

AirPods Pro can be charged within 20 minutes and with a single charge provide either up to 3.5 hours of talk time or up to 4.5 hours of listening time. You can also do a quick 5-minute recharge and get up to 1 hour usage from your AirPods.

AirPods Max case usage time

The AirPods Max case is unable to charge the headphones. AirPods Max headphones are charged via the Lightning connector. It is still advisable to keep your AirPods Max in their smart case when not in use, as this enables an ‘ultra-low-power state’ to preserve the battery.

A single charge will provide you with up to 20 hours of listening time with Active Noise Cancellation or Transparency mode enabled. You can also get up to 20 hours of movie playback on a single charge with spatial audio on. Get up to 20 hours of talk time on a single charge, whilst 5 minutes of charge time provides around 1.5 hours of listening time.

How many recharges can a fully charged AirPods case provide?

An AirPods case that is fully charged will keep your AirPods charged too. From a fully charged case, you should get 4 recharges for your AirPods. Each recharge should give your 4 – 5 hours of listening time. Reducing the volume on your AirPods will also increase their usage time.

If your AirPods are not in their charging case, they will lose battery life. When they are not in the case, their Bluetooth is always on and searching for a device to connect to. To ensure your AirPods do not drain their battery, pop them in their case. This way, they’ll remain charged and safe.

Why is my AirPods case battery not lasting long?

If your AirPods case battery is not lasting long, then it is deteriorating. Batteries in gadgets only have a certain life span and cannot last forever. AirPods cases have lithium-ion batteries that will begin deteriorating after 2 years. This normally happens when you notice the battery dies faster or doesn’t hold its charge for long.

The AirPods case was designed to preserve the battery for as long as possible. When the case is charging, it will slow its charging current when the battery hits 97 – 98 percent charged. The case stops all charging currents when it reaches 100 percent.

It’s better to let your AirPods case fully charge, rather than giving it small recharges. This method helps to preserve the battery.

Can I charge my AirPods case with a case cover?

The simple answer is yes. AirPods case covers are there to protect your AirPods and case from getting damaged. They also provide a great way to accessorise your AirPods and match it to your phone’s case. The AirPods case covers are also shock absorbent to ensure no damage is done to your actual AirPods case.

Our very own AirPods case covers are compatible with both wired and wireless charging. If your AirPods case isn’t charging, the cover is not the problem.
